ISO achievement confirms Carl F environmental ethos
Carl F Petersen Ltd has achieved ISO 14001:2004. The award, which is an internationally accepted standard that sets out how to put in place an effective Environmental Management System, reinforces the hardware distributor’s commitment to environmental issues.
Achieving the standard, which is designed to address the balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact, has required the commitment of the entire Carl F organisation. Each department has recycling bins, (paper, cardboard and plastic) and everyone is committed to the discipline of waste disposal. The company is also addressing efficient use of packaging materials and making efforts to reduce fuel consumption.
Carl F Petersen Ltd’s Managing Director John Crittenden said: “We have to take the environment into account in everything we do, as an individual, and importantly, as a company. Although costs have been incurred in setting out the various disciplines and procedures, we are already enjoying significant savings in the costs of disposal of waste.”
Carl F recognises that environmental impact is becoming an increasingly important issue across the globe, with pressure coming from a number of sources: local and national governments, regulators, trade associations, customers, employees and shareholders.
First published in 1996, ISO 14001 specifies the requirements of an Environmental Management System. Often seen as the cornerstone standard of the ISO 14000 series, it is the only ISO 14000 standard against which it is currently possible to be certified.
