Confidence from Carl F security combination
Carl F reports that security is of major importance to its end customers and this has been increasingly recognised by the introduction and continuous upgrading of relevant standards. The latest of these upgrades is the revision of BS EN1303, requiring profile cylinders to pass an anti-manipulation test conducted by the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA).
Several organisations have invested heavily and have worked hard to design and manufacture cylinders that can resist this form of attack. Just four have so far succeeded in achieving 'Kitemark' status. After much consideration, Carl F chose the KABA GeGe RAM cylinder, the first to earn the Kitemark licence. The cylinder is anti-drill, pick and bump and, from August 08, will offer an integral anti-snap feature.
Commenting on developments, Bruce Bradshaw, Business Development Manager for Carl F said:
"Multi-point locks with replaceable profile cylinders have made major advances from the old-fashioned mortice lock - most significantly, the number of key differs. Under BS EN1303 Grade 4, a Euro profile cylinder must provide a minimum of 30,000 key differs. When a cylinder is not used, BS3621 requires a minimum of only 1,000 cylinders. And the ease of replacing cylinders if someone loses a key can offer a significant saving, in time and money. Lose a key when you use a mortice lock and the complete lock will have to be replaced.
In addition, profile cylinders offer the homeowner the opportunity to choose to have all doors in the property keyed alike with the same key fitting front, back, patio and French doors (both sashes)."
